Psalm 85:6  “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?”

2 Chronicles 7:12-14 ” Then the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if  My people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.””

Malachi 3:1-3 “Behold, I send My messenger (John the Baptist) and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, Whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger (Jesus Christ) of the covenant, in Whom you delight. Behold He is coming, says the Lord of hosts. 2 But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like launderers’ soap. 3 He will sit as a Refiner and Purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness.”

Refiners-Fire1-e1335853493471 potter Holy SpiritActs 1:5-8 This baptism is not the same as described in John 20:22 (Receive the Holy Spirit). Here it is the empowering for ministry, the focus on the mission of the believers – one that cannot be accomplished without the supernatural Holy Spirit baptism. 1:12-14 The disciples are in one accord, united, in fervent and persistent prayer. Here it is again obedient response to Jesus’ command to wait in Jerusalem.  2:1-4 Again, the Bible tells us that they were in one accord. Also, interestingly, and certainly not by coincidence, this is the Day of Pentecost (God is so awesome!), also known as the Day of Firstfruits, a celebration of the first buds of the harvest. Wow! Those who became Christians on Pentecost were the firstfruits of a vast harvest of millions of souls! How sweet is that?  Wait, it gets better. And there came a sound like the sound of a mighty wind; the mighty but unseen power of the Holy Spirit. Yet the outward manifestation of the Spirit’s coming was another sign of His power and the disciples witnessed what looked like tongues of fire over each of them. Remember that John the Baptist foretold how Spirit baptism would be accompanied by wind and fire in Matthew 3:11-12 after surrendering to the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:14-38  What happened next was a gathering of a great multitude, all amazed that these fellas could speak their language, reciting the greatness of United_Prayer_Revival joy revive holy Spirit fireGod and His mighty deeds, thousands receive the Lord that day! Peter must have been on cloud nine for weeks after that sermon! Bring to memory the times you have without reservation, without a flicker of doubt, have felt God’s presence in your life, in your ministry and have witnessed signs and wonders, the greatest of which being salvation itself. It’s important that we pass these miraculous occasions on from generation to generation, recounting His mercy and power. The tradition of verbally handing down momentous events to our family and community seems to be nearly eradicated by multimedia replacement. It is equally important that we individually recount our witnessing and or experiencing His interventions.

All of these passages sound like they were written to the church of today and about today, don’t they?  God’s infinite wisdom never fails to astound me.  Although the Lord abhors and condemns the hypocritical, corrupt, and immoral acts of His people, there is hope because the Lord never changes. He is faithful to His covenant promises and will not abandon His people and He equips us for the tasks at hand. The question is, what do we need to change in order to experience the power of the Holy Spirit, what does it take to fan the flame of our first love for Him? I see some common themes in the above scripture passages. Prayer, humbling of oneself, diligently seeking Him and cleaning up our act, living the life of righteousness that we hold dear. I also see something else in common, a total surrendering to Him.

Acts 2:17-21 Peter quotes Joel 2:28-29  “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My cropped revival holy spirit on fire revive joySpirit on all flesh, your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. 21 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Peter establishes that Jesus is the Lord Who will return in judgement and upon Whom people must now call in repentance and faith. Just reading the above verses about His pouring our His Spirit upon all flesh excites me.  I know you are ready to be revived as well. His Spirit is not limited to things that we can touch, but also through the words that our mind absorbs & He has saturated these words to you, to us!

This is a call to humility, repentance, action, malcontentment with our apathy, surrendering to His will, abandoning our wants, intercession, diligently seeking Him and allowing the refining Fire to do His work in each of individually and in all Christians.

A wildfire fire only takes one spark.
