I look back at my life having fun, joking around with the guys, playing and working with my horses, lazy and hot days lying on the beach, the sound of the surf and the crashing waves still clear in my mind. Friendships forged, some forgotten and laid aside. Then as I got older, learning about drinking and sex and not joking around with the guys so much; life got a bit more serious. But still fun. I was enjoying my freedom on the fast track.

Talk about a nightmare before Christmas

An Ohio homeowner was ordered by town officials to remove a Nativity scene in front of his house that featured zombies instead of wise men and a baby Jesus.

“I wanted a Nativity and I worked with what I had,” Jasen Dixon, who manages a nearby haunted house, told Fox 19. ”The neighbors don’t like it. My father hates it and anything bad that happens he blames it on that.”

The Nativity scene features life-size figures and a zombie baby Jesus, with pale skin and pure white eyes. At night, the figures are illuminated by red and green lights.

“I didn’t really pay it any attention until the different color lights came on, then finally the baby was put in the manger,” Dan Fluker, a neighbor, told the station.

According to documents obtained by Fox 19, Sycamore Township, which is outside Cincinnati, does not allow structures to be located in the front or the side yard to occupy more than 35 percent of the area. The Most Difficult Surrender Possible!

As the momentum of fulfilling prophecy continues to increase, it sometimes feels exactly like that, face to face with one’s mortality while looking at the loaded weapon in front of you. And the perspective I discovered while questioning my plan of action when faced with life or death circumstances, well I wasn’t altogether pleased with the memories that flooded my brain, there were too many regrets and “should’v’s”.

I have been taking daily stock of my priorities; evaluating, readjusting, and repenting. Making definite time for daily Bible reading, prioritizing my morning prayers and devotionals to the point that I now do my “morning” prayers as I go to bed for the night, getting a very early start on them. Why? Because the way things are going, most of my mornings I’m being shot out of a cannon with no time to spare and the distractions are tough competition. It works for me, I sleep better knowing that I’m braced for the coming day and that I’m falling asleep as a forgiven person with a clean slate since I begin my prayers with asking for forgiveness. God is ok with it too, He’s not legalistic about our prayers; what hour of the day that we pray at is inconsequential, the point is to pray, to communicate with Him.

As I go for my morning run I mentally and often verbally put on my armor, (Ephesians 6:12-18) then I move into praise and worship, then continue to expand my plans and my responses for the inevitable hard times coming ever so quickly. The plan for the inevitable is what brought me to my knees and tearfully, mid-run today.

I had moved into the “I want to’s” in my conversation with God. “I want to be a faithful servant, Lord. Please help me to be steadfast. I want to surrender my all to You” … when it hit me.

My children.

It was as though my heart was being pulled from my body. Oh, God, NO! I so desperately need to be close to my children, to have them near me during the tribulations to come! They need me, even though they are adult children, and I most certainly need them! Oh, God this is the hardest surrender ever! But I surrender my all to You … I … and I choked on the words and broke down right there in the middle of the block, only a few miles into the run.

This was a commitment that I could not make lightly. Yet I knew that He had inspired my thinking to “go there”. Surrendering my all.

That meant to surrender my children; my parentage, my rights, my preference to be with them.

If I “bug out” when all the stuff hits the fan, that means going it alone. My kids don’t agree with how the world is shaping up and my interpretation of the events. They are still of the mindset that there’s still plenty of time; every generation thought they were the generation that would usher in the antichrist and all the horrors that that brings. Surely people thought Hitler was the antichrist and that WW2 was “it”, etc etc. I often worry that they are simply in denial.

During times of “miscellaneous” prayer, I felt that the Lord confirmed to me that my kids would not be participating in the end time evangelism that I will be participating in and that He would deal with them on His terms, for me to back off from trying to persuade them otherwise.

This was the first stage of surrendering my kids and I hadn’t realized it until today. See how God brings us gently to a difficult crossroad with such kindness?

One of my sons will be getting married this June and it has crossed my mind repeatedly that we just may not make it to June without a significant event changing the lives of every American. How would my son respond to my absence from his wedding?! Wondering if I should mail his gift early “just in case” since the wedding will be in another state 18 hours from where I live. Many sleepless nights on that one, I can assure you!

Yet, that was the second stage of surrendering my children and I hadn’t realized it until today.

So, am I at stage three in surrendering my children to God’s capable Hands? And if so, are there only three stages? I honestly do not know.

It is painful and even frightening. If ever there was a time for family to be together …

Ah, but bottom line I need to ask myself: just how much do I trust my Lord and Savior?

I’m getting just a hint of what Jesus may have felt on that cross, when the sins of the world were placed on Him. When He was separated from God the Father, His Father, a literal part of Him, by those sins; the anguish and loneliness He must have experienced! “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” or “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

My heart goes out to parents with younger children. I pray that this post will encourage you to prepare. To prepare your heart, emotions, and to instruct your children on what to do and Who to call upon should the stuff hit the fan while you are at work or they at school, separated from their parents and their security. PLEASE prepare your family while you are able to! Do not wait for circumstances to reveal themselves, anything can happen at any time. Between mother nature, nations with crazy powers ruling over them, and spiritual adversities, anything can happen. They don’t need to know the horrible details if they are young, but they do need to know that their heavenly Father will guide and protect them in emergency situations when they can’t be with their family.

Parents, prepare your spiritual lives. There has never been a greater time of need to be in-tune with God than now. We all need to surrender to Him while it’s relatively easy to do, in preparation for really dire circumstances.

I’m learning that I can’t place situations or people in His Hands if I am are still holding onto them, as painful as it is to let go.

God’s love has no limits. He demonstrated that through Jesus surrendering to the humility of human existence and to the agony of the cross, revealing the fact that God’s love has no limits. The additionally cool thing is, He loves us all … individually and equally; He does not play favorites.

Do you know and experience His unending and faithful love towards and for you? It’s not complicated becoming an adopted child of the King of kings, Lord of lords. I invite you to surrender your all. Difficult, but not impossible through Him Who strengthens us:

‘Urgent’ world conference on Syria a must: Kerry

It’s urgent that an international conference, dubbed Geneva II, be called to set up a transitional government in Syria where Bashar Assad has lost control.

LONDON — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and the U.N-Arab League envoy for Syria said Monday that an international conference to set up a Syrian transitional government must be organized urgently and held as soon as possible.

“There has to be a transition government, there has to be a new governing entity in Syria in order to permit the possibility of peace,” Kerry said. He said it was imperative to get the so-called “Geneva II” conference organized by a mid-November target the United Nations has set.

Kerry and envoy Lakhdar Brahimi spoke to reporters after meeting at the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Britain.

“There can be, there will be, a political solution if everyone gets together and works for it,” Brahimi said. “Very soon we have to set a precise date.”

Syria’s civil war, now in its third year, has killed more than 100,000 people.

Kerry says calls 'urgent' for Syria transitional government: An explosion of weapons depot

Obama says ‘willing to compromise’ in long-term, but no fiscal talks now

President Obama used a lengthy White House non-press conference Tuesday to once again accuse “extreme” Republican lawmakers of holding the nation for “ransom,” while offering a somewhat nuanced framework for fiscal talks in which he’s “willing to compromise” — but not negotiate.

The president tried to stake out his position during a lengthy exchange with reporters in the White House briefing room. Even the nature of the event was unclear. Though it was not considered a formal press conference, the president answered questions from 11 reporters and spoke for over an hour.

The takeaway was that the president, while willing to talk with Republicans about “almost anything,” will not do so until they pass a spending bill and raise the debt ceiling.

“I’ve been willing to compromise my entire political career,” Obama said. “But I’m not going to breach a basic principle that would weaken the presidency, change our democracy and do great damage to ordinary people.”

It’s unclear how Republicans will navigate that stance, with the country in week two of the partial government shutdown. Their demand is that they get some concessions — like spending cuts — in exchange for approving both pieces of legislation. House Speaker John Boehner’s appeal on Tuesday was for Democrats to simply come to the negotiating table.

“It’s time for us to just sit down and resolve our differences,” Boehner said. “There’s no boundaries here. There’s nothing on the table, there’s nothing off the table.”

Obama, though, suggested he viewed that request as a trap — a forum where Republicans will seek concessions from Democrats without putting anything on the table.

Obama said Tuesday he’s willing to talk with Republicans about “almost anything” — once the impasse is over.

“I’m not going to do it until the more extreme parts of the Republican Party stop forcing John Boehner to issues threats about our economy,” Obama said.

The president’s remarks lasted longer than many of his formal press conferences; one August press conference lasted 52 minutes. The remarks showed Obama digging in on his position that he will not negotiate until the current pair of fiscal stand-offs is over. The president put increasing pressure on Boehner, suggesting he alone is responsible for the “cloud over U.S. economic credibility” as Republicans seek spending cuts in exchange for an increase in the debt ceiling.

The president likened the GOP’s stance to demanding “a ransom for doing their jobs,” and said he wants to ultimately put a stop to these semi-regular stand-offs over the budget — without mentioning that he and Senate Democrats have not struck a deal with Republicans on a bona-fide full-year budget in years.

“The greatest nation on Earth shouldn’t have to get permission from a few irresponsible members of Congress every couple of months just to keep our government open or to prevent an economic catastrophe,” he said.

Obama, who took questions from several White House reporters, also said he apologizes to the American people for having “to go through this stuff every three months.”

The president cited “Tea Party Republicans” in his complaints, and urged Boehner to hold a vote in the House on a spending bill, claiming such a vote would immediately end the partial government shutdown. Obama said Democrats would join with some Republicans to pass it.

“Let’s stop the excuses. Let’s take a vote in the House. Let’s end this shutdown right now,” Obama said.

Earlier in the day, Obama called Boehner merely to “reiterate” that he will not negotiate. “The president called the speaker again today to reiterate that he won’t negotiate on a government funding bill or debt limit increase,” Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said Tuesday.

A statement from the White House clarified that Obama “is willing to negotiate” — once Republicans approve the budget and debt-ceiling increase.

The phone call underscores how little progress has been made in reaching a deal ever since Congress missed a deadline to pass a spending bill, triggering a partial government shutdown.

House Republican leaders appear to have eased off their demand that ObamaCare be pared back as part of any spending package.

House Republicans are introducing a bill that would actually create the negotiations Boehner is calling for. The bill would set up a team of House and Senate lawmakers from both parties to immediately start talks on the debt ceiling and other fiscal issues. The bill would also ensure pay for so-called “essential” government employees who are working through the partial shutdown.

“In a divided government, the American people expect us to work together,” House Republican Leader Eric Cantor said.

But Democrats immediately cast doubt on the idea, with one likening it to the “super committee” that failed to reach an agreement to avert steep spending cuts known as the “sequester.”

Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., questioned whether a new committee on the debt ceiling would produce similar results.

Though the partial shutdown was initially triggered by disagreements over a budget bill — and Republicans’ demand that it include changes to ObamaCare — lawmakers are shifting their focus to an Oct. 17 deadline to raise the debt ceiling.

Boehner and other GOP leaders are demanding spending cuts in exchange for raising that limit. But on this, as well as the budget, Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid say they will not negotiate.

Reid, though, said he would negotiate down the road.

“If Republicans want to propose a legislative way to make the (health care law) better or more efficient, Democrats are willing to talk about that. But shutting down the government and hoping that will make ObamaCare disappear is truly magical thinking,” he said. “Democrats are willing to negotiate — on the budget, on ObamaCare, you name it. And we’re willing to compromise. But first, Republicans must reopen the government and stop threatening a catastrophic default on the nation’s bills. They must respect the Democratic process.”

Democrats controlling the Senate, meanwhile, plan to move quickly toward a vote to allow the government to borrow more money, challenging Republicans to a filibuster showdown as the time remaining to stop a first-ever default on U.S. obligations ticks by.

A spokesman said Reid could unveil the measure as early as Tuesday, setting the table for a test vote later in the week. The measure is expected to provide enough borrowing room to last beyond next year’s election, which means it likely will permit $1 trillion or more in new borrowing above the current $16.7 trillion debt ceiling that the administration says will be hit on Oct. 17. It’s not expected to include new spending cuts sought by Republicans.

Banks Stuff ATMs With Extra Cash In Fear Of Debt Ceiling Breach

With just 10 days left to raise the debt ceiling and congressional Republicans threatening to force the government to default on its obligations, banks are taking some dramatic steps to prepare for the economic chaos that would result should the brinkmanship continue.

The Financial Times reports that one major U.S. bank has started stuffing its automatic teller machines with extra cash in preparation for a possible bank run from panicked depositors. The New York Times reports that another bank is weighing a plan to advance funds to customers who rely on Social Security and other government payments that could stop in the event of a default.

The FT said the moves are part of “a ‘playbook’ used in August 2011 when the government last came close to breaching the debt ceiling.” The 2011 debt ceiling episode produced serious economic harm, costing the country a million jobs and a knock on its credit rating. Despite the GOP’s stated goal of reducing spending and protecting taxpayer money, their 2011 debt ceiling hostage-taking added $19 billion in borrowing costs.

As banks dusted off their 2011 debt ceiling playbooks last week, the list of major economists sounding loud alarms about the consequences of a default was growing longer. Christine Lagarde, who heads the International Monetary Fund, said last week that failing to raise the debt ceiling “could very seriously damage not only the U.S. economy but the entire global economy,” and called a hike to the nation’s credit limit “mission-critical.” Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody’s and a former adviser to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) presidential campaign, warned that failing to raise the debt limit would bring a “very, very severe recession with no obvious way out.” The Treasury Department said the recession wrought by a default would be at least as bad as the 2008 crisis and possibly worse.

Despite these warning signs, Republican lawmakers insist a debt ceiling breach would be no big deal. Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) thinks Congress shouldn’t listen to economists because “many times they’re wrong.” Rep. Steve King (R-IA) remains certain that nothing bad will come of blowing past the October 17 deadline. Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL) even thinks that financial markets would actually stabilize on news of a U.S. default. For his part, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) acknowledges that default would indeed happen and be very bad, but says the only way to avoid it is for President Obama to adopt the Republican position on every major policy dispute of the past few years.

You should always have extra cash on hand just in case the systems goes down. Cash will be king at such time. But, if you don’t have cash on hand, pull some out of your bank now. You do not want to stand in line at an ATM during a period of panic, when cash withdrawals may become limited.
